Typography Calendar
For this project, I was given the task of creating an unconventional typography calendar. I had complete freedom over design and material. The approach I decided to take was the idea that I could create a furniture/decor type of piece. I wanted to create something that was completely handmade and to complete this, I had some assistance from my Dad, who knows his way around a hammer and nails a lot more than I do. It started off as a single calendar hanging on the wall, but later, the idea evolved into an interactive piece. I tried to make this calendar interactive in almost every way possible; from the hook on the front holding it closed, to being able to flip each chalkboard painted calendar around to the next month. The days and months are my own handwriting, just carved out using a laser engraver. I added magnet and cork board for the solo purpose of hanging notes and other things. I also made the calendars year-less so that this calendar could literally last forever, with just a quick erase and rewrite of the numbered days. Ideally this piece would hang on a wall so that the hooks could be used for small things, like hats or keys. I used stain, metallic paint, card stock, chalkboard paint, cork, magnet strips, oak wood and miscellaneous metal pieces.
