The Crystal Goblet is a text by Beatrice Warde that is rich with metaphors. The title refers to a clear vessel holding wine, and the text poses a choice between two wine glasses: one made of gold with exquisite, delicate patterns and one of crystal-clear, smooth glass. For this booklet, I wanted to show the pure elegance and exquisiteness of the gold goblet, but still incorporate the glass one, too. My solution was to make each page that is turned eliminate elements of the gold goblet. This would reveal The Crystal Goblet sitting in the window. I hand-cut each of the pages to further the idea of delicacy and elegance. (Yes, all hand-cut elements. But it was so worth it.) I then added one-column text blocks to match the margin sides of the cutouts.
